Karelia is a Uralic language , which belongs to the Finno-Ugric languages ??in the Baltic and Finnish languages ??in the eastern bloc. Karelia is Finland closely related language. It is said that Karelian language and culture history goes back more than 1200 years ago.Karelia is divided into dialects, some of which are also classified as separate languages ??but today it is treated linguistically as a single language. Creating a common written language for all Karelian speakers is a challenging, but not impossible task. Single Karelian written language was attempted before Stalin's persecution to create, so the Latin as the Cyrillic alphabet. At present, each writer used his own dialect. Recently, a common written language development has received positive attention and public statements. Drawing a line between the Finnish language southeastern dialects of karjalaismurteiden direction has also been difficult. The language border had to determine the denomination of the speakers: Orthodox (aik.kr.kat.) Spoke of Karelian and Finnish Lutherans in the southeastern dialects. 308 Poetique/paratextes
Paris, France SEUIL 1987 2020095327 Paperback Used: Good Paperback
Seuils (Paris), 1987. Issue of "Poetique". White wraps as issued. Tall 8vo. 8 essays in 127 pages, presented by Genette. In French. Small red x on top corner of first page (itself a paratext of this copy, found on a sidewalk book cart.) First appearance of the literary concept identified by Genette as those things in a published work that accompany the text, things such as the author's name, the title, preface or introduction, or illustrations. "Paratexts are those liminal devices and conventions, both within and outside the book, that form part of the complex mediation between book, author, publisher, and reader: titles, forewords, epigraphs, and publishers' jacket copy are part of a book's private and public history. In Paratexts, an English translation of Seuils, Gerard Genette shows how the special pragmatic status of paratextual declarations requires a carefully calibrated analysis of their illocutionary force.

Indianapolis, Ind. Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company 1912-01-01 First edition Hardcover Collectible: Very Good Hardcover Will Vawter Signed by Other
A very good, bright copy, with tooled board and illustrations by Will Vawter. Copy of Ethel May Ray - W.E.B. DuBois association, with her script on front end paper: "Ethel May Ray...Duluth, Minn." on the front endpaper. Ethel May Ray was a central figure in the later work of W.E.B. DuBois, whom she had met when her father brought the great man to Duluth in 1920 to speak to the newly founded chapter of the NAACP. She returned to Duluth to care for her mother, a move which saddened DuBois but to which he was resigned. An exchange of letters is in the archives at University Massachusetts, Amherst. This signature is probably contemporary to the publication of the book, indicating an early idealism.

388 2nd Marine Division PICTORIAL ARROWHEAD: OCCUPATION OF JAPAN BY SECOND MARINE DIVISION
Japan Division Special Services Section, Japan, 1946 1946-01-01 First edition Paperback Collectible: Good Paperback
Rare. Only edition. Large format, printed landscape. Blue and white photos with some text. Bound by ribbon. Some light liquid staining to edges, does not affect any pictures or text. Issued to the unit first in Nagasaki after the bomb. As stated: "This pictorial booklet of the 2nd Marine Division, commanded by Major General LeRoy P. Hunt, USMC, has been published under the supervision of the Division Special Services Section with the assistance of the Division Photographic Reproduction Sections. Individual credit to Pfc. Leo L. Wengert and Pfc. Herman E. Erke". First photos. "We walked into Nagasaki unprepared, and we were shocked as hell at what was there," Lyman Quigley remembered many years later. "Really, we were ignorant about what the hell the bomb was. We had no idea what we were going to see. We weren't given any instructions whatsoever. We were amazed, shocked--and yet stupefied... At the time, gruesome as the panorama of suffering was, it seemed to involve only other people's problems... Orders from above did not include any unusual precautionary guidelines or provisions. Quigley and his buddies drank city reservoir water, and worked in the midst of the most heavily damaged area without any protective clothing or special gear. They were not provided with radiation-dose badges or any other equipment to measure their exposure to radioactivity." Due to the size/weight of this book it is not available for expedited delivery; extra charges may apply for international shipping. Ships from Dinkytown in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
