106 Bachelard Gaston La formation de l'esprit scientifique Contribution à une psychanalyse de la connaissance objective
Librairie Philosophique J. V 1968-01-01 Paperback Used: Good Paperback
Librarie Philosophique, 1969. Sixth edition, as copyrighted. 256 pages. Original wraps, as pictured, lightly rubbed. Spine lightly creased, else good to vg. Bachelard's studies of the history and philosophy of science in such works as Le nouvel esprit scientifique ("The New Scientific Spirit", 1934) and La formation de l'esprit scientifique ("The Formation of the Scientific Mind", 1938) were based on his vision of historical epistemology as a kind of psychoanalysis of the scientific mind. In the English-speaking world, the connection Bachelard made between psychology and the history of science has been little understood. Bachelard demonstrated how the progress of science could be blocked by certain types of mental patterns, creating the concept of obstacle épistémologique ("epistemological obstacle"). One task of epistemology is to make clear the mental patterns at use in science, in order to help scientists overcome the obstacles to knowledge.

111 Bachelard, Gaston; J. Vrin Essai Sur La Connaissance Approchee (Bibliotheque Des Textes Philosophiques) (French Edition)
Librairie Philosophique J Vrin 1968-12-01 2711600424 / 9782711600427 First of this edition Paperback Collectible: Very Good Paperback
Librairie Philosophique J. Vrin, 1968. Second edition. Original grey wraps as pictured. Very good condition. Publisher's summary: In this first writing, which is his main thesis (1927), Bachelard studies the process of refining scientific knowledge. The role of approximate knowledge is defined in the experimental sciences, where the degree of precision, confronted with the contingent and the indivisible, necessarily reaches a limit; as well as in the mathematical sciences which, subject to this same "epistemological and ontological splitting", nevertheless lend themselves to an unlimited approximation, since the mathematical infinity makes it possible to create new irrational beings always ensuring the continuity of the indefinite of rational numbers. . Therefore, one never reaches that rectified and provisional fact. The knowledge of reality is gradually confirmed with each of its acquisitions, and this rectification constitutes the true epistemological reality, because it expresses the thought in its deep dynamism: "the approximation is the unfinished objectification, but it is careful, fruitful, truly rational objectification since it is at the same time aware of its insufficiency and progress ". Alongside the debates of pragmatism, the concepts of reality and truth are invested with a new meaning by a philosophy of inaccuracy.
